Bewildered by Interpretation

Well, it looks as if I'll be debutting a new recurrent feature here. Let's call it "Bewildered by Interpretation".

This will be a little journey of exploration of those hapless souls that say or do something so odious, yet claim ignorance of the significance, import or interpretation.

Kind of a la Rupert Murdoch.

For our first entry into the Hall of Shame, I give you: Mayor Dean Grose.

“Bottom line is, we laugh at things and I didn’t see this in the same light that she did,” Grose told the AP. “I’m sorry. It wasn’t sent to offend her personally — or anyone — from the standpoint of the African-American race.”

Bottom line: It is offensive.

  3. I just heard that as well. I cannot take any pleasure in his resignation, though I believe it is prudent.

It is my wish that he will be an example of what ignorance, hubris and insensitivity can cost.

I also wish him to benefit from this debacle as a lesson learned, to emerge a better human.
